Boxee remote for Salling Clicker
Well I’m a Boxee alpha tester so i have Boxee on Windows and what i really wanted was a remote control.
Since i love and use Salling Clicker, naturally i decided to write a script so i can enjoy Boxee heaven
I used Boxee on Florian’s MacBook with his iRemote so i wanted something exactly like that. Mine is better – it’s not IR (but bluetooth and wifi)
This is a very simple script that emulates the basic navigation keys in Boxee (cursor keys, enter key, escape key and backspace key).
My primary phone is the brilliant Nokia E71 so naturally this is what i used to develop it. I dont know if it will work out of the box on other phones, but in theory anything with a joypad or center pad thingy should be compatible. You can always adjust the script to your liking. I’ll probably end up turning one of my pda’s or my old phones into a full time remote. I’ll update the script should need be in the future.
Below is a link to the file. Just unpack it into your “My Documents\My Clicker Scripts” directory.
A fun thing would be to have the remote display the currently playing info with the artwork and the time.
I think the XBMC api stuff is in python. For windows users that might not be so cool. I am looking into it though.
Seriously, i bought a Bluetooth Dong just to make this salling clicker work with boxee, and I absolutely have to thank you, this script you made, IS AWESOME!! THANKS A LOT!!!!!!!!!!
it would be very nice if i could start boxee from my phone. for the moment i have to use my mouse to start the program but after that it works fantastic
@pervo I wasn’t planning to support this script anymore, but that feature is fairly simple to impliment. I have exams for the next month so I’ll look at it after I’m done
Hey masayume,
Thanks for this script. I was wondering if you implemented pervo’s suggestion for starting boxee with device yet?
Thanks
Hello Salat06,
Unfortunately I’m not really working on the script any more. This is for multiple reasons:
a) I’m not really using salling clicker any more because it seems to be i) abandoned (hasn’t been updated in years), ii) the developer documentation is a insulting joke
b) I’ve been given and iPhone and since it’s the worlds worst phone the only other use i have for it is as an email/web reader etc… and there’s an app there that gives me total control over my whole computer in a way clicker never could
c) I’m planning to write my own version of clicker that’s cross platform, documented and (if I’m in a really good mood) open source. Unfortunately I’m engaged with uni/work and have not really had the oppertunity to work on any personal projects. I can see this changing fairly soon so perhaps one day…..
You can look up the forum post on salling where i posted the app and ask for someone else to make the changes. Like i said this seems to be a dead project that’s only being kept alive by the handful of people willing to actually sit and put up with the crappy API, the lack of documentation and Microsofts shitty excuse for a scripting language.
Sorry i cant help out. If i had the free time i might have sat down and looked at it, but as it stands it’s been so long i’d have to sit down and relearn all the stuff and as i mentioned there isn’t any real documentation so that’s not a 2 minute job.
